This is the world’s largest excavated mine. A team of Soviet geologists found the diamond reserves in 1955.
The mine was first exploited two years after its discovery, and operations have never halted since. This mine, which is 1200 meters in diameter and 525 meters deep, produces a fifth of the world’s diamonds.
